The Commissionerate of Service tax, Chennai was created on 15/9/2004 merging the jurisdictions of Central Excise Commissionerates of Chennai City for the purpose of implementing the service tax law. The objective of the Commissionerate was to administer the service tax law, act as a facilitator for trade and make all efforts to maximize revenue collections in its jurisdiction.
Consequent to the Cadre Re-structuring and Re-Organization of the existing Service Tax Commissionerate, a new Service Tax Zone, Chennai has been created with effect from 15/10/2014 comprising three Commissionerates viz., Service tax I,II, and III falling under the jurisdiction of Chief Commissioner of Service Tax, Service Tax Zone, Chennai and in terms of Notification No. 20/2014-Service Tax dated 16.09.2014 issued from Board’s F.No.137/29/2014-Service Tax.
The Commissionerates clarifies any query received in writing, monitors issue of registration certificate in a timely and transparent manner, causes the filing of returns, receives complaints and undertakes preventive action to counter any evasion of tax.
