The Commissionerate of Service tax, Chennai was created on 15/9/2004 merging the jurisdictions of Central Excise Commissionerates of Chennai City for the purpose of implementing the service tax law. The objective of the Commissionerate is to administer the service tax law, act as a facilitator for trade and make all efforts to maximize revenue collections in its jurisdiction. The Commissionerate clarifies any query received in writing, monitors issue of registration certificate in a timely and transparent manner, causes the filing of returns, receives complaints and undertakes preventive action to counter any evasion of tax.
